User Profile question

Susan

Lady has complained that she lost all documents from 2006 and the folder now
has a weird string (turns out to be domain or computer name) after the name,
and the folders all appear empty.

She has posted a hijackthis log on ASAP hijackthis forum and has Windows XP
Home.

The computer name and the domain name are the same.

User Profiles show

Username.domain where the username is connected to the domain with a dot in
between.

Username.domain

Does it mean that the users were set up as member of a domain group? If
user profile were convert then new folders (user profile related) would be
created? What would happen to old folders for previous (user profiles)?

Would they be wiped out or still exist somewhere?

Thank you very much for any information.

No. XP Home cannot join a domain. What has happened here is that the
original profile has become corrupted for some reason. When this happens the
system creates a new one under an alternative of username.computername

The may still exist under "C:\Documents and Settings"

There is also a slight possibility that undeletion software mighe be able to
get some files back, but it'd have to be run soon after the loss.
