User Log-in frozen...heeelllpp

When windows Xp starts the screen with the list of users for that computer
comes up seems to be frozen. it shows that there are certain programs
running in certain accounts but will not allow me to click on any of the
names to enter the accounts. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i
should do to fix this problem because i need to get into my own account on
there to do work?

Now *this* is a good post. It would have been better if you had kept it
in your original thread, but one can't have everything.

Now let's narrow down the troubleshooting:

1. What programs do you show that are still running? If they are really
programs, it sounds like the computer is coming out of hibernation and
you didn't do a true shutdown. Do you have hibernation enabled?

2. Does the problem exist in Safe Mode? Get into Safe Mode by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to
the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not
work here.

3. What changed between the time things worked and when they didn't?

4. XP Pro or Home? Service Pack level? Some computer hardware specs? And
what antivirus (and version)?
