TASKBAR FROZEN!!

Hello,
My taskbar is frozen and I cannot click on any of the programs that are
listed there, nor can I access the start menu. The only options that I have
are the shortcuts on my desktop. I am running windows XP. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

press the CTRL, ALT, DEL keys at the same time. then let go. this should bring up the task manager. click the processes tab up top. find explorer.exe in the list, clik it to highlight it, then click the END PROCESS button. it will tell you that it can cause adverse effects but click yes anyway. Part of your screen will go blank. In the task manager, click file, click new task, in the window that comes up type "explorer" without the quotes and click ok and it should restart the explorer task which controls your start button.
