user list / shares

Hi,

everytime I try to add a user to a share on a workstation ov my small new
network (W2K server ), I see the username , I can add them to the list but
when I click Ok, I have an error message.

The problem is probably something with the DNS. All my computers are using
the DNS of my ISP.

Anyone knows how I can use the DNS of my ISP and being able to add users to
my shares on the workstations ?

I assume you are using an Active Directory domain. If that is the case the
link below has all the information you need. If your domain controller is
not using only itself as it's preferred dns server you will have to change
that and then when done run these commands in this order - Ipconfig
/flushdns, Ipconfig /registerdns, netdiag /fix, net stop netlogon, net start
netlogon. You may have to install netdiag on your domain controller first.
It and dcdiag are excellent diagnostic tools for domain controllers and
netdiag should also be used on domain members. The support tools are in the
support/tools folder on the install cdrom where you will have to run the
setup program there to install them. When all is done open up the dns
Management Console and verify that your domain zone exists and that it is
populated with records including the _srv records. For an Active Directory
domain do NOT use DHCP on a cable/dsl router, but instead disable it and
setup DHCP on your server and use the router's lan side IP address as the
default gateway for all the computers. --- Steve
