After I set up my ID at installation of XP I noticed that I need to amend
the user ID. Changing this at user account only partly changes the name, I
need to change it fully so that when I create documents the author is
correct. Also I need to effect the name change in documents and settings
folder, right click rename file is not available. How do I achieve this?

What you need to do is 'Change Registered Owner'. This is not the same as
User ID.

Click Start> Run. In the small Window dialogue box, type in 'regedit', and
then press 'OK'.

Locate the following item:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Create a Backup of the existing key by exporting to a file.

To change the register user name, do the following:
In the right pane, double-click 'RegisteredOwner'. Under Value data, type
the name that you want, and then click OK. Click Exit on the File menu to
quit regedit.

Hi,

Create a new account with the preferred name. Then copy the existing profile
into it. You can change the user name for an account, but you cannot change
the name of the associated user folder under Doc & Settings.
