User Desktop Profile problem

Sam Learner

Hello,
I Was configuring my Windows XP Pro Desktop profile...
I configured a User Profile and copied it into the "All Users" folder so all
users would initially have the same Desktop configuration...
After I have done that... I logged on with administrative ID... opened
Administrative Tools all the icons in the administrative tools are gone.
All profiles now no longer have the Administrative tools icons, the
Short-cut to Windows Updates is also gone.
I deleted the Admin user profile... Re-logon so Windows XP will create a new
profile, I still to do not have the Icons.

Is there a Tool, or command in windows XP I could use to restore the lost
icons?
I realize I should not have copied the profile over the "All Users profile"
but I am sure this has been done before.
Please help

Thank you,
SJ

Try doing a System Restore to before you did this.

Sam,

If a System Restore rollback does not help, try this:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

In the right-pane, set "Common Administrative Tools" (if exists) value to the folder containing the shortcuts. Usually:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools

Verify if all the shortcuts exist in the above path. Then, make the changes here also:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
