Assumed Login & No Administrative Tool Icons

Hey everybody!

I´m having some problems with Windows XP on a single machine at work.

Previously, whenever I tried to use a resource provided by the network,
Windows XP would ask for login and password. On this particular machine, it
doesn´t ask this information and every time I turn on the machine, some
profile is attached to it. So users can´t access their files based on their
own privileges.

I thought that maybe, to solve this problem, I should go to Administrative
Tools but the icons that should be showing within Administrative Tools
aren´t shown.

BTW, the user logged to XP has administrative privileges in case somebody
can suppose the problem is happening due to the type of user.

Can anybody help me out?

START | RUN | type REGEDIT & press ENTER

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Explorer \ Shell Folders

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Explorer \ User Shell Folders

Find and delete 'common administrative tools' in the right pane & restart
windows

Hi there SPAMCOP!

I followed your instructions but only found 'common administrative tools' on
the first navigation (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows
\CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Shell Folders); and deleted it.

After restarting Windows, the problem persists, and I can´t have access to
the icons within administrative tools.

Thanks in advance.

What "administrative tool" do you think would help you?

This sounds like an issue that you ought to raise with your company's IT
department.

If you really want to mess with the registry of a company computer,
first backup the registry and then see the following article, which
describes how to configure Windows to automatically log in to a domain,
and then do the reverse:
