User creation of hyperlinks to network documents

I need to set up something where users can create hyperlinks to external
(documents located on my company's network) documents associated with records
in my database. For example, say Record 1 has a word document related to it
called word25.doc. The word doc was created by user 7. What I'd like to set
up is a way for User 7 to link word25.doc to Record 1 such that when anyone
using the application views Record 1, they will either see the links or they
will be able to pull up a subform with a list of all such linked records.

Is something like that possible? If the Edit Hyperlink dialogue box can be
utilized in a way that doesn't require all kinds of other tools be used, I'm
all for that. However, as always, it needs to be as straightforward as
possible and not require uses to do anything but click a button or two and
navigate to the file that needs to be linked.
