user and admin security

Hi
I was using access 2000 and created security to my database using the
security feature provided by ms access. I created security so that
users login with their own password and managers with their own. This
all works fine. I opened my database on another pc with access 2003 and
realised that the login screen does not appear. It goes straight in.

When you setup ms access security to your database, does it only apply
to that computer?

Any advise is much appreciated

Nope, that means you didn't do it correctly. Don't feel bad though. My
estimate is that only about 10% of the Access apps that people "think" are
secured are really secured properly.

Your only real chance is to Google for one of the explicit step by step
instructions that detail precisely how to do this. The wizard and the help
file have virtually no chance of getting you there.

In a nutshell, when you opened the file on the other computer you did so as
the default user "Admin" as a member of the default group "Users". In a
properly secured app neither of these credentials are enough to open the
file. Most likely you still have "Admin" as the owner of the database
and/or many of the objects. Owners have rights above and beyond any
"Permissions" you might have removed from them.

If you've followed all the steps in the FAQ then you would not be able to
open it without your custom workgroup file. It also sounds like you've
modified the default "system.mdw" workgroup file instead of creating your
own custom one.

Security is a complex beast and you need to read and understand the MS FAQ
on security, there's a link on my web site.
