I just purchased a laptop with Windows XP Pro Installed. When I booted the
machine, it only had a "Guest" Account available to log on. How can I create
an adminstrator account if I only have Guest access??? Please help me....
I'm stuck!

thanks charlie! i did as you suggested and was able to access admin
previlages. however, when i rebooted the welcome screen still only shows
"guest". how do i get myself (the admin) to show up on the welcome screen?

Do not use the built-in Administrator account for every-day use. You
apparently have XP Home and the Administrator can only be accessed in
Safe Mode.

Go back into Safe Mode and log into the Administrator account. and from
there Control Panel>User Accounts applet. Create a user account for
yourself. Then reboot the computer and log into your new account.

BTW, with a second-hand computer the best practice is to do a clean
install of Windows so you don't inherit the previous owner's problems
and/or traces of "interesting" surfing habits.

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and use Start > Run > "control userpasswords2" to
modify the desired account(s). By design, the only way to log into the
Administrator account of WinXP Home is to reboot into Safe Mode. For
WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome Screen will
produce the standard login dialog box.

Im having difficulties with my accounts as well sorry for intruding but i
turned on my computer the other day and there had appeared an administrative
account. my account is also administrative and they seem to be conflicting i
cannot delete the account that appeared and i fear for my files on my account
if someone could help it would be great. if someone could atleast tell me how
to give my accoun back its gaming abilites, i cannot access online playing
ability with the account that appeard.

Is the name of the account Administrator? If so, you cannot remove it. It
belongs to Windows XP. But you can prevent it from appearing on the Welcome
screen.

If you have TweakUI XP, there is an option that you can check for waht users
appear on the Welcome screen.

If it's not Administrator, then you need to let us know the name, in case
it's another protected Windows User account. Don't supply the password ...
not needed.

Are you on a networked system with a domain server?

You didn't specify what make and model of Windows XP you have.

the name is administrator and how do i do what your saying i need step by
step sorry im not the technical type. no network domain. dont know what make
or model it is. Just some extra info when it appeared i lost all ability i
had to play online, i can also access it and log in with it and i just need
to have my gaming ability back please. thank-you

When you boot-up, does Windows XP say you are in Safe Mode? A Window will
appear stating that.

Have you downloaded Windows TweakUI XP Power Toy?
