When I try to access User Accounts I get a yellow warning triangle and the
following message
"Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment"
Anyone know a solution to this?
In addition, I cannot access "System restore" and I have no control over
Active-X. The problem has trashed my BT Internet broadband software and I
can't reload from the web because of the User accounts issue as I get a
message that says I must log on as an Administrator - by the way, there is
only one user account on this laptop.

Colin,

Here is the fix for this problem, previously posted in the Help and Support
newsgroup:

Copy the following line to Notepad, and save the file as "c:\olefix.reg"
with quotes.

---------------<From next line>-----------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\CLSID]
@="{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\CLSID\InprocServer32]

---------------<Till prev line>-----------------

Right-click olefix.reg file, and choose Merge.

Then, type in Start, Run:
regsvr32 ole32
(Press Enter)

Restart Windows.

Had a good feeling about this, but ......... no change I'm afraid. Still
the same message and still a blank box if I go to system restore.

Found the solution in Windows Update Discussion Group. Pamis says get rid of
KB896688, so I did and I now have control again.

Yes, that's the update which causes this problem in some systems. The OLE
fix worked in most cases I've seen.
