User Accounts on XP

I recently upgraded my entire system and when I put my C:\ drive in the new
box it wouldn't load my XP so I installed it again on my D:\ drive. I tried
to access my MY DOCUMENTS folder from the new XP and it would let me have
access because I had it as a Private folder and password protected. But I
can't get the old Drive to run the installed XP I get a system error and it
won't load. My question is .........
Is there any way to get access to the MY DOCUMENTS folder without being in
the XP on my C:\ drive ? I need the files in it becuase they have all my
passwords plus my other important documents and files.

I'm not sure exactly what you did, but let's see if I've got this right.

You took the hard drive from your old computer and put it in a new computer.
When you started your new computer, it wouldn't boot into XP. If that's the
case, you need to perform a repair installation on the copy of XP that's on your
C drive. You're trying to boot an XP installation that has all the hardware
settings, all the drivers, and the registry from another computer on a new
system. That's not going to work. Take a look at this web site for more

If what I outlined above doesn't describe your situation, then the best I can
pass along is that you should boot into the new XP installation on your D drive
and take ownership of any files that you can't access on your C drive. Take a

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.
