Problem Accessing Old User Account

My motherboard failed on me the other day. I can get the board fixed
under warranty but l need to access work files on the hard drive.
Here’s the problem, l put the hard drive in another machine with
Windows XP Pro on it, which worked. I had access to all files except
those located under I:\Documents and Settings\Brad (Brad being the user
l used to log on as, the I:\ used to be my C:\) l get and “access
denied” message. I tried loading my XP Pro from my drive so l could log
in as myself but got a message saying windows files where missing or
corrupt and wouldn’t load. Can anyone help me access the “My Documents”
folder from my old user account?

Put the hard drive from the problem computer in the working
system as a slave drive. You now need to take ownership of the
I:\Documents and Settings\Brad folder. Here's how:

Don't forget to disable Simple File Sharing. If you don't, you
won't gain access to the Security tab on that folder's
properties sheet.

Good luck

You need to logon as an administrator and take ownership of those folders
being sure to select "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and then
give yourself or administrators full control permissions to the folders. If
any files were encrypted with EFS you will not be able to access them unless
you can import your EFS private key into your user account from a backup in
a password protected .pfx file. The link below explain further and be sure
to read on how to disable simple file sharing in XP Pro to see the security
tab for folders. --- Steve
