User Accounts Blocking

James

Before I restored my system I had 2 user accounts in XP. The
administrator and the guest. Previously when the Guest would log on
the guest could not access any of my software or files. Which is the
way I wanted. After the restore the Guest can access everything on PC.
I tried creating a new User account with limited capability & the same
thing happens.

Hi James,

This behavior is true in case of a FAT32 file system. For security, you need to convert the file system to NTFS.

Disabled simple file sharing and it did not work. I have 2 drives. I
want to block access to the 2nd slave drive. It is a NFTS drive. I
spent an hour going over your links and no luck but thanks for
replying.

Once you have disabled Simple File Sharing, you must right click the
folder or drive label (D:, or whatever) and click on Sharing and
Security, then on the Security tab. Remove the users or groups that you
DO NOT want to be able to access the drive. Next, click the Advanced
button. Be sure to leave the entries for the Administrators group, the
CREATOR OWNER, and the SYSTEM users. Without these, you will be unable
to edit the permissions for the drive. The SYSTEM user allows your
computer to perform automatic maintenance on the drive.

If you screw up this process, you can unscrew it by taking ownership of
the drive. Once you do that, you must re-add the permissions for the
Administrators and SYSTEM accounts. Be sure to give them Full Control
permissions.

Im using XP pro and I don't have that security tab. Before when I
created a new User Account the user account had nothing, no access to
any software nothing. That is the way I want it again.
