What is special about the Administrator account that it does not show in the
list of accounts when XP boots up (besides the fact that it is the
Administrator account)? How can I create a hidden account/username?

If you're using XP Home edition, the administrator account will not
show up under a normal boot. You must boot using Safe Mode before
the account will show up as menu choice.

Let me ask my question another way.

How do I create an account that does not show up with that list of user
account icons?

Greetings --

Once any additional user accounts have been created, the
Administrator account will no longer be displayed on the Welcome
Screen. This is a default security feature. By design, the only way
to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to reboot into
Safe Mode. To change this default security practice:

Hide/Show users on the Welcome Screen
