User Account / Picture

I recently lost my picture next to my name on the "Start" menu. I've gone to
Control Panel/User Accounts/Pick an account to change/Change my picture.
I've done this and there is a picture there. I've changed the picture
several times, restarted my computer, what else can I do? Where'd my little
picture go?

I have Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 5.1, Service Pack 2.

I know it's only a cosmetic thing...but I would greatly appreciate any help
in getting my picture next to my name on the Start Menu.

Did you click the Change Picture button after you selected your picture?

You cannot have a picture if you use the Classic Start Menu.

Switch to the XP Start Menu.

*And* you cannot have a picture if you have the Welcome Screen turned off.
The Start Menu and Welcome Screen use the same picture.

To turn the Welcome screen on...
Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Click Change the way users log on or off.
Select the Use the Welcome screen check box.
Click the Apply Options button

Does this folder exist?
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account
Pictures\Default Pictures

Does this registry entry exist? And is NoUserNameInStartMenu set to 1?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer
NoUserNameInStartMenu

Change NoUserNameInStartMenu to 0.

I have the Classic Start Menu on all my computers (XP Home) and they all
show my picture on the welcome screen.

Hi Gerald,

Wesley was referring to the user account picture on the *Start menu*, not
the picture shown on the Welcome screen.

Oops! I should read my tagline.

I have reworded that sentence since it didn't say what I really meant. ;-)

You cannot have a picture on your Start Menu if you use the Classic Start
Menu.
