User account menu images and start up screen missing

I made some image changes for my children and the user account images have
gone haywire.

As I result, I believe I have deleted an intergral part of the system that
links images to the start up screen and the help menu in the "User Accounts"
control panel windows.

When one user is signed on the other persons image is a red x in the user
account menu. After logging on and you hit start the image is the one chosen
on each account.

At the sign on screen both accounts have images but they are not the ones
selected .

Although the system is working fine, I would like to restore the images if
at all possible without having to do a complete reinstall. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

In addition on one of the accounts when I try to change the image the system
tells me permission denied.

I have tried system restore and it tells me it can not complete the task. I
had to repair the installation recently and this problem did not change from
its condition prior to the repair.

I tried this and it did not work. When I try to change the picture when I am
logged on to one account and change the image on the other account it says
"Permission Denied" and then shows the chess pieces image on the start
screeen when it only shows a red x for the photo on the help screen. If you
log into this account it lets you change the image but the image selected
does not appear on the startup screen.

The other account will let me change the image but still does not show on
the startup screen. When logged onto this account you can change the image
It also shows the chess piece image.

Furthermore, when you log onto both accounts and click start the image
selected is at the top of the start menu.

Are you running XP Home or Pro?

You need to check the folder/file permissions on this folder and report
back.

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account
Pictures"

----
How to see the security (permission) tab for XP Home and view the
permissions.

Log into Safe Mode as the Administrator.
Navigate to the "User Account Pictures" folder and right-click and select
properties. Select the Security Tab and write down the permissions for each
account.

----
How to see the security (permission) tab for XP Pro and view the
permissions.

Open the Folder Options in the Control Panel. Select the View tab and
uncheck Use Simple File Sharing.
Navigate to the "User Account Pictures" folder and right-click and select
properties. Select the Security Tab and write down the permissions for each
account.
