User account icons missing

The welcome screen is now missing the user account icons. Went to Start, Control Panel, User Accounts, but won't open. When computer is first started, the welcome screen shows, but not the user account icons. If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del twice, I get a block showing the user account name and I can type in the password to get to my section of the system. At this point, my normal icons appear and I can access the Internet and all of my files. This problem started when someone hit the main shutoff button while McAfee Spamkiller, Outlook Express, and the Internet connection were open. Please advise.

Can't say exactly what but something in the file system or the files themselves got corruptes. Try a disk check on all your partitions if you have administarative access. Then try "sfc /scannow" from a Run menu or command prompt. If these don't work it's probably a registry file that got damaged. It will have to be repaired or rebuilt by a specialist.
