use remote gateway

Can some one tell me the steps to do this so I can still
use my IM's and browse the web while connected to a VPN.

Check for a setting in your vpn client for use remote
gateway and uncheck
it.

I did it once but now I can't seem to find it.
 
It is located here

VPN Connection > Properties > Networking > Internet TCP/IP Properties >
General > Advanced > General
