use of plus sign in contacts suddenly disabled...!

This problem appeared out of the blue: in all the phone number fields
attempting to write a number preceded by a plus sign results in that plus
sign being removed when I move away from the input field in question.

Something has changed the format verification under those fields and I
cannot figure out what to do.

This is a SERIOUS problem as now I cannot transfer numbers to my phone in
the ready-to-call international format used in GSM networks (+xx yyy jj).

I have a clean Outlook Professional 2003 and I have not installed the
Business Contacts Manager. I do have installed a few Outlook plugins:
LinkedIn, Attensa(RSS) and Plaxo.

I am grateful for any help.

Many thanks

Diane,

No, I have not messed around with any dialer settings. I have broadband and
I don't even need dialup.

I can see that that would be a problem but this issues is of different
nature: I can no longer insert a string that starts with a '+' into any
phone number field so that it stays there. The minute I exit the field and
move the cursor elsewhere the plus sign will be removed. There are old
entried in similar fields in existing business cards where the plus sign
still remains intact.

So it must be a question of the format verification for that type of fields
which has been altered.

Running a repair procedure with the install disk did not help.

Many thanks for your help - any other advice what might be wrong?

You need to set up the windows dialing properties in the control panel -
once you enter your area code, it should work as you expect.
