use MSN Messenger instead in OE6

Jonathan Stratford

hi,
Is there a way to remove Windows Messenger, and change the
option in Outlook Express 6 which says to login to Windows
Mesenger or something to login to MSN Messenger? I much
prefer MSN Messenger 6 to Windows Messenger, but after
having a brief browse through the posts in this newsgroup,
it seems that removing Windows Messenger means that remot
assistance will not work. Can this option be obtained in
MSN Messenger, and will i be able to get/give assistance
to people who use Windows Messenger?

Many thanks for any help,

Jonathan Stratford

Greetings Jonathan,

In Windows XP, Outlook Express will only use Windows Messenger for its Messenger integration
feature -- it cannot use MSN Messenger 6.

MSN Messenger 6 still has the Remote Assistance option but Windows Messenger must remain
installed (but no need to be running). You can just disable Windows Messenger 4.7, by
opening it up, click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run this program when
Windows starts'. As well, since you use Outlook Express, you will probably want to disable
Windows Messenger starting with Outlook Express if you're using MSN Messenger 6, to do so,
close Outlook Express, then download and run this .reg file:
