I am wonder how i would use my microphone on my computer not as a voice
recorder, but to playback audio realtime through my speakers. i would like
to use it like karaoke in that the sound coming in the mic would come out of
the speakers realtime. would i need special software
to do this? does windows xp come with software that allows me to do this?

thanks!

You don't need special software. You probably just have to uncheck the
"mute" on the mic volume in volume control. You need a sound card that is
capable of "full duplex" operation.
Note that you will get feedback if your mic picks up the sound from the
speakers - it is best to have the mic far away from the speakers to avoid
this.
