I have a SP1 XP Pro CD which I used to install XP on this machine. I am
planning to buy a SP2 XP Pro CD for another machine but can I use it on this
machine with the old product key number to reinstall or repair install?

Thanks!

Yes, as long as its the same version. If SP1 is a "Full Retail Version",
then it will work with a SP2 "Full Retail Version" CD.

Generic OEMs, not restore disks.

If they are both "generic" OEM XP install CD then you should not have any
problems. The only time where your may have problems is when the OEM CD is
specifically "locked" to a mass-produced line of PCs (like some Dells) or
that you get a factory recovery CD.
