I would like to have an external drive which is a USB2 but I'm not sure how
fast it is. Does anyone know the difference in speed because I don't want to
have to upload data to my hard drive then go to bed and the next morning
it's still uploading.

If possible, use an external sata (eSATA) drive. Because eSATA does not
have to translate data between the interface and the computer, but it
does require an external power source.

Richard,

I would suggest you go with an external firewire drive with an NTFS
file system. If it comes with a FAT 32 file system you can always reformat
it as NTFS. Of course, you can always leave it as FAT 32 if you don't intend
to transfer large files.

Hi,

Effective transfer rate for USB2 is 320 Mbps, or about 40MB per second when
it has exclusive use of the USB bus. Sata 3.0 runs as 3Gbps or about 375MB
per second.
