USB2 card, scanner and WinXP = misery!

Last week bought a PCI USB 2 card for my PC. My motherboard only has USB
1.1 and I bought a new scanner so I thought it would be a good idea to
upgrade to USB2 at the same time. However, I am having no end of trouble.

I installed the USB2 card with no problems, and Windows detected the card
and automatically installed it on boot up and Device Manager reports
everything appears to be working fine. Next I connected up my scanner to
the USB2 port.

Now, the moment I switch on my scanner, Windows freezes immediately and it
is impossible to get back control unless I reboot the computer (CTRL-ALT-DEL
does not work).

If I plug the scanner into my standard USB 1.1 ports there is no problem,
except scanning at high resolutions is very slow. I've been to the Microsoft
site and installed all the latest updates but to no avail.

I've tried various settings over the last week and nothing seems to work.

PLEASE can someone help me :)

System Specs:

Motherboard: ASUS P4S533
Processor: Intel P4 2.66ghz
Memory: 512k
Operating system: Windows XP SP1

Scanner: Epson Perfection 3170 Photo

USB 2 card: Sweex 5 port PCI (NEC chipset)

Hi,
Went thru same amount of hell with my usb 2.0 card and scanner. I took out
dialup modem and put usb 2.0 card in that pci slot. No more problems. Good
luck with it.
