I have been using USB wireless card on my systme. I have
a couple of cards I have been testing out. I have found
that USB Network Devices can become hidden. If a card
cannot be reconnected, then its settings will get in the
way of other installations, particularly with IP
198.162.0.1. There seems to be no way to delete these
entries from the Registry.

In fact, I wonder what happens when you have connected to
a USB device and then never use it again. Is there a way
to manage unconnected USB devices?

Have a read of this:

Device Manager Does Not Display Devices That Are Not
Connected to the Windows XP-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315539

You might like to use this article to force Device Manager to show the
nonpresent devices.
The nonpresent ghosts should now reveal themselves.
You could then delete the nonpresent network adapters from device manager.
