USB Updates

Can a USB 1.1 be updated without changing the hardware?
Or is USB 2.0 a hardware and software upgrade. I have
USB 1.1 ports but want to know if I can udate to a 2.0 on
my laptop with just a driver update?

They are two completely different hardware devices. 1.1 cannot be upgraded
to 2.0. On a notebook, you can purchase a PCMCIA USB2.0 card.
