USB to PS/2 Adapter

My system does not have PS/2 ports. I want to hook up
the "Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite" on one of the USB
ports. I am using CARVE CV-002 USB to PS/2 adapter but it
does work. It makes a connection and disconnection sound
when I connect/disconnect the adapter. In addition the
keyboard lights also blink once. I checked under the
device manager window and see the addition of 2 Human
Interface Devices as I plug the adaptor but the keyboard
does not work :-(.

System Configuration:

- Win XP SP 1 (installed)

Please help me out.
Thanks

This I have a hard time believing! You mean to say your system doesn't have
two ports one coloured green and one coloured purple?! What's the system? No
motherboard I have come across has ever lacked a PS/2 port. The only system
I know of that doesn't is the Tablet PC (at least the one my friend has -
hers just has two USB2 ports).

What is the make and model of your system? It can't be a desktop - can it?!

Its a laptop - Acer TravelMate 291 LCi :)
I'll do a full windows update tonight.
Hopefully that would resolve the issue.

Miss PT,

Back in 98, I had a friend with a desk-top that did not have PS/2 ports.
Needless to say, I have no idea which MB it was though.

The only time you are really going to find a motherboard without a PS/2
port is going to be an old computer (AT motherboad with AT Keyboard
support) or I guess a laptop (but even those usually have PS/2). AT were
the fat plugs that looked kind of like a MIDI cable.

Anyways, you are really confusing me here because this keyboard comes
with both PS/2 and USB connections. Unless this is some whack OEM
version that comes without the USB connectivity. Also, I would like to
note that converters will not always work as sometimes it has to be
supported by the hardware such as the mouse or keyboard.

Hi Nathan,

The way I came across this PS/2'less computer was, a friend didn't like the
mouse that came with her machine. I had an extra PS/2 and offered it to her
to try. There was no port for it on her machine. The way you describe the AT
plug, it very well could have been an AT.
(excuse Miss PT if PS/2'less is not legal)<grin>
