PS/2 to USB adapter

My laptop does not have a PS/2 port for my keyboard. I
purchased a PS/2 to USB adapter. When plugged in,
Windows XP Pro says it does not recognize the device. I
cannot choose a keyboard if I attempt to update the
driver. How can I make Windows recognize this?

You have to have a dual-mode keyboard that is capable of working with both
PS/2 and USB. Plugging a normal PS/2 keyboard into a PS/2 to USB adapter
won't work because it does not have the necessary electronics inside.
