USB stick

On a Windows ME computer I cannot use my Sandisk 128Mb USB memory stick
(works on XP). The doc mentions "no drivers must be installed". Could that
be wrong? Where could I eventually find drivers?

WinMe and WinXP have own drivers for USB mass storage devices (eg.
memory sticks). Usually, there is no need for installing an extra
driver. You may want to read:

"How to Enable Universal Serial Bus Support"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258773/EN-US/

"General USB Troubleshooting in Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition,
and Windows Me" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263218/EN-US/
Where could I eventually find drivers?

Drivers for Win98/Win98SE can be found on the disk/CD coming along with
the memory stick and/or at the manufacturer's homepage. In case of
further questions please contact the manufacturer's technical support
or ask here:

98 and ME usually do need special drivers for such things. They usually
come along with the device, maybe on a CD, maybe on the device itself,
where you could copy them off in XP to take across
Or look at www.sandisk.com/retail/drivers.asp for the appropriate one

"USB Storage - FAQ for Driver and Hardware Developers"
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/usbfaq.mspx

| The Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Windows XP (and later) operating
| systems, as well as Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), contain
| native support for devices that comply with the Universal Serial Bus
| (USB) Mass Storage Class Specification. If the USB bus driver
| enumerates a mass-storage-class-compliant device on a computer running
| Windows, it will automatically load the USB storage port driver
| (usbstor.sys) for that device.

I've tried different USB sticks under WinMe and there was no additional
driver necessary.
