USB Speakers?

The speakers that I use for the PC are, I think, on their last legs. They are mains powered through a 12V transformer. I see a lot of adverts for USB powered speakers and I wonder if anyone knows how they compare.

Any big disadvantages?

Yeah they are crap...I have been through quite a few different makes and have yet to find anything decent. I mean ok if you just need them to say listen to something on the BBC news online, they are OK, but for anything else other than that they are pretty crap, but that just my opinion...
