USB Problem

When I insert anything like a USB flash pen or USB lead into my computer it
makes a noise to recognize the usb device but I am still getting the noise
after I take the device out. Can anyone tell me why. Its very annoying
and goes on for some time afterwards. Do I need to change any settings.
