Pen drive locks up explorer.exe on insertion.

I keep having this strange problem with any USB pen drive I use. After the
first time I use it, which works fine, inserting it a second time simply
locks up explorer or anything that tries to access it. This includes the
device manager, the command prompt, and so on. The drive works perfectly
fine in other computers running XP or Win2k3.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions?

John.

Just noticed in the Event Viewer that the following errors shows up:

This:
A problem has occurred with one or more user-mode drivers and the hosting
process has been terminated. This may temporarily interrupt your ability to
access the devices.

Then this:
The device Flash Disk (location (unknown)) is offline due to a
user-mode driver crash. Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more
times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about
this problem.
