USB problem after upgrading to XP Home

A friend of mine just upgraded form win 98 to XP Home SP2.

Everything work fine except his MP3 player. When he plug the device, windows
tell that a new hardware is found and is asking for the drivers.

XP is not supposed to ask for a driver and the manufacturer tell the same.
They only have win98 drivers.
I did a test with my flash drive Sandisk and I have the same problem.

The printer which is USB too works just fine as the scanner.

Any idea ?

Go to the computer/motherboard manufacturer's website and download and
install the latest Windows XP drivers for that specific model number.

If that does not resolve the issue open Control Panel - System -
Hardware - Device Manager and uninstall all of the USB items listed.
Then reboot the computer immediately and let it redetect the USB ports
and reload the drivers for these.

Good luck
