USB ports deactivate after POST

I recently had to reinstall XP Pro over itself due to an issue I had, and now
when I boot up my PC, my USB keyboard, mouse, and hub light up when the
"Dell" logo first displays at boot-up, then they go dark as soon as the
"Windows XP" logo displays.

I checked my BIOS settings and "USB Emulation" and "USB Controller" are
selected as "ON". I ran Dell Diags and it found nothing wrong with the USB
connections.

Is it possible that my USB device drivers are bad/corrupt?? If so, how can
they be replaced??

If you think the Repair Install actually fixed whatever the issue was,
then reinstall your Dell drivers. Usually a Dell Restore CD comes with
Dell systems and the drivers are on there. If you don't have the Restore
CD, then go to Dell's tech support website for your specific model
computer and download the chipset drivers and any other updated drivers
they have.

No, the repair install did NOT resolve my issue. I'm able to launch Windows
again, but now my USB ports are disabled and this happens when Windows is
booting. I ran the Dell Resource CD to reload all of my necessary drivers
but there wasn't one specific for my USB ports except for a USB 2.0 driver.

I'm thinking the Microsoft USB drivers might be corrupt. If so, is there a
way to replace the possibly corrupt drivers with the the originals from the
XP CD ???

If the Repair Install didn't resolve your issue, back up your data and
do a clean install. There is no way to determine what parts of the
operating system have been damaged. Then install the Dell drivers from
the Resource CD, then do your Windows Updates.

The chipset (motherboard) drivers are the ones that would cover the USB
ports and that would be from Dell, not Microsoft.

Just wanted to let you know I figured it out without having to do a clean
reinstall.

I perused a few Microsoft articles, and tried their solutions with no
success. So, I took bits and pieces from each article, and decided to
"Uninstall" each USB device listed in the Device Manager, then did a Scan for
hardware changes. It began reinstalling all of the USB devices, and
reinstalled them all with success. I'm able to use all of my USB devices
including the USB keyboard I'm typing on this second.
