USB port

Hi all
I have a new computer and I have loaded all the software myself. Xp, all
drivers and service packs. Works great.
Well apart from one minor error.
Whenever my broadband usb cable is connected on boot up the computer justs
hangs. Only after I take out the usb cable does it kick into life.
Now its not the biggest problem in the world just annoying.
I have loaded the latest drivers from the internet for the modem (BT
voyager) and nothing changes.
There is obviously something wrong, but what? The usb hub is shown in device
manager.
Any help please.

Thanks

If your computer & Broadband modem have Ethernet, utilize that to
connect the two, instead of USB. The boot issue is probably network
initialization. Even with USB 2.0 you have limited bandwidth to share
with your USB peripherals.
With all your USB devices connected. Open Device Manager, Click
to expand USB category. Then Click each Universal Host Controller.
Then click the Advanced (Tab). Check the total Bandwidth used value.
With newer systems that have 4 controllers and 8 ports, you sometimes
need to re-allocate devices to avoid overloading a particular Hub/Ports.

I don't know, but you might want to check if your computer is configured in
BIOS to boot to a USB device -- it'd be strange, but maybe your computer is
trying to boot to it. If so, move it down the list after your hard drive
and try booting again.

Just an idea...
