USB port not working with Windows Xp -Critical

Hi i had windows 98 OS and was able to work with USB port after installing
necessary drivers.I recntly switched to XP so that i have plug and pay
mechanism with USB drives but my HP laptop is not recognizing the USB drive
itself.If i insert a flash drive its not being recognized.I would like to
stick to windows xp then windows 98.Please help its critical for me

I showed it to hp vendor .he tried many things but could not help.\
asked me to revert back to windows 98.I know it works with windows 98 but i
need to have windows xp.
Are there any drivers from microsoft which i can try so that my problem gets
solved?

If you mean that HP will not supply the necessary drivers to allow this
laptop to function properly with XP, then you will need to replace it
with a XP capable laptop.
