USB not workin XP

I have just installed XP Pro and it does not seem to install the USB.
i have tried downloading drivers, deleting and rebooting. I have tried
absolutely everything. SP1 does not install on my system so i can get
that to work.
Tryed enabling through bois. Ive tried inserting XP cds and 98.
Nothing seems to happen. It jus says cannot install hardware. and
brings up a '!' in device manager.

Dont know what to do??

Format the drive and start over doing a clean install of WinXP

Hi Rich,
I know this can be a real pain, and your exasperated at this point.
1st. thing I would do is check your bios settings & make sure USB i
enabled there. If that doesn't work, when you go to load the US
drivers for XP SP1,
have your XP CD in a optical drive, and point the hardware at the i38
folder on your XPCD. The chipset driver for the motherboard and XP SP
USB drivers, are all that you'll need.

Does it say 'data is invalid'? If so, try this:

Change entries that have 'read only' for USB to 'full permissions'
and reboot.
Be careful while editing the registry.
