USB Mouse XP hangs on boot

Using an Acer Aspire T180. Windows cannot boot with my trackball explorer
plugged into a USB port. It can boot with other mice or with this mouse
plugged into the PS2 port using an adapter.

Any ideas as to how I can use USB for this mouse? USB mouse is enabled in
the BIOS.

Sorry, i dont know that pc but ive found you can only boot with usb devices
if the sockets come with the motherboard itself. So vendor usb daughter
boards wouldnt work for example, because they require that drivers are
installed by windows as it boots up
