I'm appreciate it greatly if someone could give me a
solution to this problem. I have a Dell Optical USB mouse
that works fine when it is plugged directly into a USB
port. I only have two usb ports, so I need tried to free
up one by plugging the mouse into the ps2 port using a usb-
to-ps2 connector. no windows xp doesn't see it and can't
install it since there is no option to install pointing
devices. what gives?

Your mouse must be designed to work with the USB-> PS/2 convertor for such a
device to work.

It appears that your mouse was designed for USB interfaces only. As such,
as per your observations, the mouse doesn't work through your PS/2 port.
There isn't really much you can do... it'd be cheapest just to get a new
mouse that does support the PS/2 port.

Hi;
How about the USB to ps2 converter "dongle" being defective???

It's not defective. I've tried using a logitech mx500 with
it (the dongle) and it works just fine.
