USB Modem on Compaq D510

Hi,

I have a set of Compaq EVO D510. OS in Windows XP SP1. I want to use a
USB modem Zyxel 56K. If I install it on a PC on which I install XP from
the beginning, it works perfectly. If I use the Compaq preload, I
receive an Error 633 (port already in use).

There is nothing else installed on this PC (like Palm or phone
software). I have tried with dfferent PCs and different modems so I
know it is not a hardware failure.

The modem is recognized perfectly and the drivers are the same on both
machines.

One strange thing is that the modem is working with HyperTerminal but
not when I set up a standard Internet connection

Please help.

Thanks

Nathan McNulty brought next idea :
Disregard this. That is for Windows 98/ME. This is the only thing I can find
for XP, but you said you don't have Palm software installed. Is it possible
that the Compaq disk preloaded it without your knowledge? See:

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I have checked this also but
nothing like this in the list of installed programs. I have also tried
to uninstall all the Compaq software I could identify. Does not help.

Any other idea ?

Axel

Did you install any software with the modem? Does Windows just
automatically install it for you? Have you tried removing all
connections from the Network Connections folder and removing the modem
from Device Manager, reboot, then try setting it all back up?

What is really throwing me here is that HyperTerminal works, but the
other doesn't.
