usb/ide > 200gig HD > Win98SE, how to scandisk??

I have a maxtor 200gig hard drive and a no-name usb2/ide converter
on my win98se system to use for archive storage. The only
sw that came with the converter are the usb driver files.

I formatted it as one big partition and loaded a bunch of stuff on it.
Seems to be working fine.
I tried to scandisk it. I get an error message that I don't
have enough memory to run scandisk.
I tried NDD from Norton 4.0. It tries to fix up a bunch of
errors every time it runs. Surface test detects no problems.
But I get a bunch of fixups every time I run NDD. Takes forever
if there's a lot of stuff on the drive. Pretty quick on an empty
drive.

I thought the USB/IDE converter took care of all the math issues
surrounding big drives on 98se???

So, what do I do to allow me to scandisk (or equivalent utility)
this external usb2/ide hard drive with win98se?
Thanks, mike

That's normal because win98se doesnt
have support for drives over 127G

That's dangerous since its long before 48 bit LBA.

Not entirely as you have found.

The latest NDD might support it.
