USB Hub

Have a Belkin 4 port hub (set to self) attached to my
Compaq EVO port replicator. Seems like the hub drops
offline because I get "Unsafe Removal mesasges" every 2 to
3 hours. Has anyone seen this before?

Low power, bad wire, loose connectors are some possible causes

Cheap Belkin hubs are Cr*p. Their more expensive ones are
OK. Make sure you use the power supply rather than self
powered if you can - particularly on a laptop. This can
cause problems with USB powered devices such as scanners
and ADSL modems.
