USB hub/storage device not working

I had no problems initially using a USB 2.0 hub, memory stick, and digital
camera with a 4.5 yr-old Dell desktop (USB 1.1 and upgraded to Windows XP
with SP 2), but ever since I used the memory stick and digital camera with a
new Dell laptop (USB 2.0 & Win XP with SP 2) my older computer won't
recognize the memory stick or camera unless I reboot the computer with the
devices already plugged in, and this doesn't always work. Sometimes the
devices will work if I just power down the hub separately, but this is also
no guarantee. I have uninstalled and updated all drives using the device
manager and have even called Dell, but with no success. Any suggestions.

USB Hub Power Management - disable : Start/run, type DEVMGMT.MSC , then
rightclick each USB Hub device, Properties, uncheck the box on the Power
Management tab.

This did not work. Although would the fact that my USB Port Hub has it's own
power source make a difference?
