USB Hub Installation Failure

Using the 'New Hardware Wizard' to install a USB hub and selecting 'Install
Software Automatically the wizard searches for 'Generic USB Hub' and then
reports 'Cannot install this hardware. There was a problem during the
installation of this device.'

Any suggestions how to resolve this issue?

Boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, delete/remove any and all USB hubs
you find, reboot and Windows will re-detect and install the drivers.

I had already tried this, but the issue persists.
