usb hardware not detected

Hi all,
I posted yesterday and got some feedback but nothing seems to have worked so
far. I'm really stuck... I've got more details that I'd like to share and
see if anyone has any more advice. - sorry this is so long but want to give
the details...
I plug my device into the USB port - the power is on - Windows XP detects
that a new device has been installed. Here is where I believe things go
wrong. It is supposed to be plug and play (I've tried it on another computer
with XP and it worked fine - detected and installed no problems). On my
computer, it launches the wizard to install the software(?). I run through
the wizard and it attempts to install the software for "Generic USB Device'.
After searching - it does not install the hardware and does not detect it.
I've opened the Device Manager and tried everything there - refresh/update
drivers, uninstalled and re-installed. When I plug my device in, XP does not
recognize the device under the category - Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Instead, it creates a new category in Device Manager called 'Generic USB
device' with a yellow (!) on the device. I've noticed that none of this
happens with the device on the computer that it worked on...
Any other ideas???? Thanks...
Greg

USB Hub Power Management - disable : Start/run, type DEVMGMT.MSC , then rightclick each USB Hub device, Properties, uncheck the box
on the Power Management tab.
