USB flash drive not getting detected properly...

Sorry in advance if this is a duplicate post, but my Windows Mail claimed
that the post was no longer available to view.

On a Compaq 5340 (400MHz AMD K6, 220MB of RAM, and a 4.3GB hard drive) with
XP SP2 when I plug in my SanDisk Cruzer Mini 512MB into any USB port on that
computer, nothing happens (as in, it won't get detected) until I either go
into the device manager and refresh the list or until I restart the
computer. Any idea why? On all the other computers I use with XP, they
pick it up right away the second I plug it in. Even Windows Vista Beta 2
picks it right up on my 60GB partition dual-booting XP on my main computer.
Thanks.

I could have sworn back when my grandma had it and I had a 256MB Cruzer Mini
it worked right away when I plugged it in.

I've brought all of Windows and hardware up-to-date with Windows Update and
still doing it. The only hardware update was for the onboard sound.
