USB Flash Drive No Show in Win Explorer

After not using for awhile, Flash Drive no longer shows in Explorer. All is
well according to Device Manager and shows up in Computer Management
sections. It also shows up in Control Panel | Portable Media Devices as a
Win Media Player device. I recently installed new version of Win Media
Player .

I can trick the drive to show up one time via Computer Management | Storage
| Removable Storage | Media, right click, Properties | Media tab | Enable
Media check box, uncheck, Apply, re-check, Apply. I get a "This group or
resources is not in the correct state to perform the requestion operation."
However *sometimes* the Flash Drive then shows up in Explorer.

Also, Restarting the Local Disk Manager in Computer Managagement | Services
and Applications, will cause the Flash Drive to show in Explorer.

Anyone have any ideas. I have tried the basic remedies in Knowledge Base,
including Autoplay settings. I am a little suspicious Media Player hijacked
the thing as some kind of mp3 player or something.

Many thanks,
Ron

It wants a "Ready state" New security features are protecting you now with
WMP 10. If you would like to turn those off, I can tell you how, but you
should only accept my advice if you feel you are ready to risk whatever
security hole that might open in your media player.

I created two REG files that I put shortcuts to in my Quick Launch. I turn
OFF, and back ON as needed.

--security OFF.reg--cut here--
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN]
@=""
"wmplayer.exe"=dword:00000000

---end OFF--cut----

--security ON.reg--cut here--
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN]
@=""
"wmplayer.exe"=dword:00000001

---end ON---cut----

see:
Pictures do not appear as expected, or you receive an error message when you
open an HTML file on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-b:

(It's always possible that something else is hitting your Flash drive, but I
doubt it<g>)

I've had the same experience with the flash drive missing from "My Computer."
I'm not sure when it happened, but I recently upgraded to Media Player 10.
The fix suggested by Mark seems like it would correct the problem, but it
also seems like a bit of an annoyance to have to go through an extra step
each time one wants to access the removable drive. Any other ideas?

Duhh.... I found a solution for my own post ... I have Tweak UI for Windows
installed. The drive letter assigned to the flash drive was not checked
under the "My Computer" ... "Drives" option menu. The flash drive is now
back in Windows Explorer. I hope this helps.
