Usb/firewire disk (external)

Hello.
I have a serious problem with my ext. usb/firewire disk.(supports both
formats)
I have an 1394(firewire) card installed (windows forces this card to use
OCHI driver and i want it to use Texas Instrument driver) that is impossible
becasuse windows says that the driver has the best driver. This result in a
freese/no detection+++ after a windowsupdate patch. (after a clean install
with xp sp1 everything works).

How can i force windows xp to accept texas instrument driver instaed of
OCHI?

If i gave up the firewire connection and tryed to use USB connector.
It can´t detect my ext. disk. ( this also worked before sp2).
The only way to use it is to power it on after windows is started, then it
works.
That is not good enough because i want to share some files on that
disk.
That means that the disk must be online before windows is finished.

I tryed to install (WindowsXP-KB904412-v2-x86-NOR.exe) driver but that
resulted in 30 min of rescuingwork because the pc tilted and did not
start propperly afterwards.

Config.
Dell 8400 pc with 1gb memory and prosessor 3ghz.
the usb disk is tested alone so there is enough power to use the disk.
the usb connector is functional.
the usb disk has external power.

Regarding the OHCI compliant thing for firewire, the TI driver for firewire
is OHCI compliant.

What patch did you install?

My PC with a Firewire (TI chipset) card went through SP1, then critical
updates, then SP2, then subsequent critical updates. Firewire has always
worked with external firewire only hard drive, and firewire network.

Windows may for some reason by misIDing your TI chipset. Remove any
USB/firewire attachments. Boot to safe mode. Remove the instance for
firewire, and reboot.

I tryed to install the KB904412 patch. The only thing that happend was that
the pc did not let me log in (the login screen did not appear).
I had to start in secure mode to remove the patch.

Ok I will try to do what you are suggesting, and give a result here later.

Thank you for answering.

I deleted every firewire products. Restarted the pc and both (twin firewire
card and Creative audigy2 card) was automatic reinstalled.

When I connect the harddisk to the firewirecard and power it on nothing
happens. No drive appears in explorer.

But when I try to open (in controlpanel) the system icon, because I want to
check hardware ,then to pc locks itself for 2 minutes.(I did not want to
wait any longer so i took the firewire connector out of the disk and i once
again had full control of the pc.

Strange. (who is living in my external harddrive? I can only wonder)

Do anybody have any clue what to do next?
