USB External HardDrive not being recognized

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me regarding a little problem I'm
having or at least explain why it's happening.

I had a Maxtor hard drive lying around which I know works once used
internally. So, I decided to get a external USB box to have it installed
exterally. It has its own power supply and usb cable and doesn't require a
driver for WinXP.

The problem is my system doesn't not show it in Windows Explorer and I've
tried going through disk management and it too doesn't see it.

Can anyway shed some light on this problem.

I've got a P3 1Ghz pc with 512Mb ram and WinXP Pro.

Thanks & Regards,
Bill

Hello Bill,

Did you solve this issue? I am having the same problems with a USB hard
drive (memory Stick). The memory stick is found by the system as I can select
it from the "safey remove hardware" option but it does not show up in my
computer or windows explorer as an external drive. I know the memory stick
works as I can use it without any problems on other computers that are not
running windows XP.
